How most decide to delve into Linux is by downloading it, then trying to install it without the use of a manual. Of course what happens is frustration sets in and they abandon Linux never to return. If you purchase the boxed set from RedHat you get a manual but I have always been disappointed in RedHat included manuals.

I have always been impressed with the "Unleashed" books from Sams publishing and this one is no exception. In fact it is better than most that I have read. With Linux books they spend too much time on the GUI (graphical user interface).
The GUI is a terrific interface to Linux but just as with MS Windows NT, remote administration is limited. Command line is where Linux shows its brawn you must know how to handle Linux by command line. Even if you never remote admin a Linux box knowing command line is just "Good For The Soul"
This book takes the time to show you how to admin Linux both by GUI and most importantly from shell. Completeness is this books biggest asset. All is covered in this book, installation, configuring services like Apache, mail, FTP, even as far as connecting your PDA.
I would like to make a list of some of the subjects covered in this book but it is just too vast. Let me just say that Redhat Linux 9 Unleashed covers it all. This book should be in your hand before you ever begin your first Linux installation. This book has the power to make your RedHat Linux experience virtually pain free.
This book is good for the beginner to the intermediate user. Guru's will find this book redundant and should be reading books written on more specific subjects.
After you have your own Linux box up and running with the help of this book you, like I, will be saying "MS Windows???, Does anyone still use that old OS ???" OK, maybe not.... But you will be singing the praises for Linux.
Pros: Vast amount of subjects covered.
Cons: Vast amount of subjects covered. This makes it difficult to have extra detail on each subject. A bit pricey.
