PHP and MySql have now become the dynamic duo of web development. There are perks that come with super hero status, one being third party applications to make development with the duo easier. SQLyog is just one of those applications.

    By : postalcow

Working with MySQL can sometimes be painful. SQLyog has the ability to take even the most difficult and time consuming tasks and make them a breeze.

I have always been a phpMyAdmin user so I was anxious to give this Windows based application a try. The first thing I noticed right off was its speed. I never realized how slow phpMyadmin actually was. SQLyog has too many features to list in this article, but I will touch on a few that impressed me.

    • SQLyog has the ability to view blobs. It will even try to parse the blob and display it; even images.
    • Ability to export result sets in XML, HTML and CVS formats.
    • Backup and restore.
    • Create a schema for your database in HTML.
    • Do you have queries that you use over and over? Simply save them into your personal folder for quick access.
    • Database diagnostics to quickly check, repair, analyze and optimize your databases.
    • My favorite feature of all is the Database Synchronization Tool (DST), giving you the ability to compare (with color coding) and synchronize different databases.
    • Inexpensive; $49.00. If the only thing you use is the Database Synchronization Tool it's worth the purchase.

I knew this would not be a fair article unless I also listed everything I did not like about SQLyog also.

    • No Linux version

Conclusion, SQLyog is bursting with features that have been reserved for high dollar MySQL front-ends and is affordable to most users. I highly recommend this application for newbie's and guru's alike. It was a pleasure to review.

    Cost: $49.00 USD
