Several people who know me know that I have absolutely no interest in obtaining a PHP certification; I would much prefer to make an impression in a unique expressive way rather than with a piece of paper, and either way it just wouldn't benefit me in my current line of work. So, why this book? I have to admit I was curious to find out what kind of knowledge it takes to become a Zend Certified Engineer. Ohh I like the sound of that title :-)

I found this book extremely user-friendly to read, so much in fact that as soon as it arrived in the mail I only intended to take a peak but simply couldn't put it down. Not very far into the book there was no doubt, I would totally flunk the certification exam! But alas, this book is laid out as if it were the actual test, it allows you to grade yourself and tells you exactly what areas to study (in my case quite a few areas). I would definitely consider this book advanced even to the advanced PHP user, as well it should be. The knowledge needed to obtain a certification is certainly well thought out, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to acknowledge the credibility of any certified individual.

Although roughly 150 pages, it would be a good idea to reserve some "quiet time" for yourself before sitting down with this one. Overall whether you're looking to get certified, or you're just curious (like me) this is definitely not a book to pass up; it has convinced me to reconsider this whole "certification" thing, but certainly not without much preparation. It sure would be pretty to look at. Hanging on my wall. All sparkly.
