PHP and MySQL Web Development by Luke Welling & Laura Thomson

    Published by Sams Publishing.

This book is absolutely excellent, to say the least. Although I wouldn't recommend it to a first time PHP coder, I would definitely suggest this book to anybody looking to sharpen their skills or migrate PHP with the MySQL dbase. Luke Welling and Laura Thomson give the best in depth explanations I've come across on such things as regular expressions, classes & objects, sessions etc.. I really feel this book filled in a lot of gaps for me with things I didn't quite understand.

Vaguely reviewing the basics, this book jumps right into the functions and features MOST COMMONLY used with PHP, and from there it continues in describing real world projects, MySQL integration and security issues from a project managers point of view. I found every bit of this book to be well organized and easy to understand.

Complaints? ..well, I do recall one section of the book (when describing security) mentioning something about how people don't like having their IP's revealed, and aside from the obvious reasons they also said you could make a pretty good guess at someone's geographical location by their IP address alone. Well my complaint is HOW!? I'd like to know how to do that and it left me without any resources to further investigate the topic - when they provided online resources for further research pretty much everywhere else in the book.. Overall this book has given me the confidence to tackle ANY project :-) If you like PHP but feel a little weak in certain area's, this one is for you.
