The PEAR Package Tour: PEAR Basics - A Selection of PEAR Packages

I’ll leave you with a brief list of some interesting PEAR packages. At the heart of PEAR are the actual packages, and they are the primary reason for using the PEAR system at all. I’ll be exploring many of these packages in future articles in the PEAR Package Tour.

    • MDB2 – A database abstraction layer providing a unified API for various open source and commercial databases.

    • DB_DataObject – A Database Accessor Object, allowing you to further abstract the data in your system as simple classes, rather than SQL data sets

    • Mail – A simplified interface for sending mail over SMTP

    • Services_Amazon – Lets you provide searching and shopping capabilities on your web site

    • Services_Yahoo – A simple API to provide YAHOO search results

PEAR packages are both diverse and useful, and you are certain to save many hours of coding if you add PEAR to your toolbox! For a complete list, visit the PEAR Package browser.
