    An office suite alone is not a home office in and of itself. You will need some other software to get things running smoothly. Of course, your needs will vary depending on what you need to do; this is a listing of some of the pieces of software that you may find useful. They are all freeware, which means that you will never has to pay a dime for any of it. Just take the ones that you need and don’t bother with the ones that you don’t.

    Evolution

    This is a Linux version of Outlook. It comes with a lot more then email, though. How much more? Well, it comes with e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, advanced searching, desktop integration, shared vCards, junk filters, encryption and LDAP support.

    Gnucash

    This accounting suite is good for both personal finances and the needs of a small business.

    Now you are all installed. You can spend some quality time with your new software. Getting to know the ins and the outs of your new software could take you a little bit of time. It will be time well spent, and if you are stuck, then you can always look for help at the site for the software. It will usually have some kind of documentation or a community where you can get help.

    Now, you can enjoy your new home office setup. In no time you will be wowing your clients and making it work with your zero-dollar Ubuntu-based home office.
