Book Review: CISSP in 21 Days - General Overview

The book is exactly 297 pages long, divided into 22 chapters. The first chapter explains the CISSP certification, provides a detailed introduction to the organization that is conducting the examination, what the CBK is about (Common Body of Knowledge), and ultimately the ten key security domains prescribed in the CBK.

At the beginning of the book, in the Preface, as always with every title from PacktPub, you will learn the conventions regarding the book’s style, and the targeted audience is also described. The front and back cover of the book is similar to other publications from Packt; it’s the unique orange-on-black design.

Please check out the table of contents below. As you can see, the title of each chapter sums up its content in just a few words. This is very useful, along with the index at the end of the book, because this manual can be used as a reference, and sometime in the future you may just want to search for a particular issue.

    Index

Most importantly, each of the key security domains of CBK is covered over the course of two days. This approach is explained during the Introduction as well. Over the years, the author has determined that preparing for CISSP requires a systematic approach of reviewing the key concepts in a succinct and lucid form right before the examination.

The candidate can use the book as a reference during the preparation stage as well, but that isn’t the sole purpose of the title. The chapters align in a logical sequence, discussing the necessary key elements. This is useful because some of the concepts overlap, and that is how the candidate is able to comprehend them. Thorough knowledge is required to recognize the right answer during the exam.

On the next section we will continue our review by analyzing the content of the book, the style of the author, the way it is delivered, and such. Click on the link below.
